Meet the Founders
Derrick and Holden Bassett-Alee have an eclectic mix of experience across multiple industries that uniquely position them to think about your wedding venue from a variety of perspectives. They have helped venues exceed their goals while increasing client satisfaction and improving the guest experience.
Holden began his career as a wedding planner and designer after graduating with a degree in hospitality and tourism management. Prior to this, he worked in numerous hotels where he learned the importance of taking care of guests and surpassing expectations. After five years and close to 200 weddings with another firm, he opened Holden Michael Events, a design and planning company based in west Michigan serving clients across the country. Since then, he has helped over 400 couples create joyous celebrations that are both beautiful and experience-oriented.
Derrick’s journey in hospitality started in food and beverage management, where he oversaw restaurant operations. His interests in theatre lighting and sound design led him into the creative world of event production, and ultimately, into the wedding industry. Derrick joined the Holden Michael Events team full-time in 2019 as a wedding coordinator and currently oversees event operations and marketing at The Felt Estate in Holland, supervising approximately 60 weddings each season.
